Rest in peace, Want

This evening my grandma was out walking her and my grandpa's dog, Want, when another dog attacked Want. Want did not survive. My poor grandma watched as another dog grabbed her little dog, threw him into the air and grabbed him again. And now Want is gone.

I can't even believe that it happened. It's horrifying. I just keep thinking about how scared and in pain Want must have been and how terrified my grandma must have been.

My poor grandma is extremely distressed. My mom called me crying.

Want was just a little white Maltese. Maybe 7 lbs. He was so sweet tempered and was the perfect dog for my grandparents. He looked like a live little teddy-bear and was always happy to see me. My grandparents spoiled him so much because they loved him. He was my grandma's birthday present to my grandpa about 6 years ago. Just this past weekend, he was at our family reunions and I held him in my arms, cradled against me, multiple times. I never would have thought it would be the last time I would do so.

That is ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! Oh, I'm so sorry. Did your grandma know who the other dog belonged to? If so, I hope she sues the PANTS off of those irresponsible pet owners!

I don't know if they know who the other dog belongs to. From what I understand from speaking with my mom, the other dog was leashed but somehow broke its leash.

This is truly truly awful. I can only assume the dog's owner has not been found and held accountable. My many great sympathies for your family! That is a tragic and horrific way for an animal to die.

I don't know what is going to happen to the other dog/its owners. My grandpa told me today that he was told that this dog has bitten other dogs.

Of all the posts to catch! Poor Want....it would be horrific for any creature, but it's worse to think of it happening to the little white bit of shag who gave Jamie kisses on the nose, and made him giggle with his tail-wags, playing hide-and-seek around the corner of your couch. Poor grandparents, and the rest of the family, too. You have my condolences, Want has my prayers, and as for the other dog/owners...........

My dog may be big, but she's gotten attacked at the dog park, and I felt so helpless. She's only gotten a scratch because I got it off her, but what could your grandma do? I feel sorry for theirs and your loss.

Oh my gosh that is so traumatic :( My grandparents have a very similar type dog, a little maltese energetic yappy thing. It keeps my Grandad occupied...if it weren't for that dog, I really think his Alzheimers would be even worse and maybe he'd even be in a home. He'd be crushed if anything happened to it :( My thoughts are with your family.

What kind of dog attacked it? What kind of dog is randomly that violent? That is so scary.

I don't know what kind of dog attacked Want, however, ANY kind can attack. Any dog can be violent, randomly or otherwise. It is up to dog owners raise their dogs in such a way and to take precautions to decrease this risk.

This just seems to be a theme lately. A few weeks ago my neighbor and her dog were attacked by another dog on my block. Something needs to be done about this.

I too loved Want. I loved to go to your grandparents to see him. He was indeed sweet and adorable. I will keep your grandparents in my thoughts.
